Project Overview
The Supporting the Education System for Recovery in Syria (SEERS) project was implemented to reinforce the resilience of the education system in conflict-affected areas of Raqqa, contributing to early recovery efforts through the improvement of learning environments and the psychosocial well-being of both children and teachers.
The project addressed the compounded impact of conflict on education by combining physical rehabilitation of educational spaces with targeted psychosocial support and life-skills interventions. By focusing on both infrastructure and human capacity, SEERS aimed to restore safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments while strengthening community engagement around education and child well-being.
Key Interventions
The project carried out minor rehabilitation works in twenty educational spaces, improving safety, functionality, and suitability for learning in highly affected areas. These interventions contributed to restoring regular educational activities and creating environments conducive to children’s emotional and cognitive development.
In parallel, one hundred teachers were trained on psychosocial support, life skills, and citizenship education, equipping them with practical tools to respond to students’ psychosocial needs and foster positive classroom dynamics. The project also provided structured psychosocial support and life-skills training to five hundred children, strengthening their emotional resilience, social interaction, and sense of civic responsibility.
To extend impact beyond schools, ten community awareness sessions were implemented targeting children and community members, promoting psychosocial well-being, positive coping mechanisms, and community participation in supporting education and child protection.
